  1. Fees are £18 per work entered. The maximum number of entries is four.
  2. Entries are only considered complete once the submission fee has been paid in full.
  3. All entries must be submitted by the deadline, to be included in the selection process.
  4. If your artwork is not selected for display in the exhibition the entry fee WILL NOT be refunded.
  5. All artworks submitted must be for sale.
  6. The selling price can be any figure up to a maximum price of £1000.
  7. All artworks shown in the images submitted must be of the original piece.
  8. The named person on the submission form must be the artist who created, made and designed the artwork.
  9. You can have a maximum of 1 square metre floor space for 3-dimensional work (e.g. sculpture).
  10. For 2-dimensional work wall-hung pieces the size limit is 2m on the longest edge, including the frame.
  11. If the work is framed, please include the frame in the photograph. If it is not yet framed, please describe how it is to be framed.
  12. A jury panel of judges will select artworks for the exhibition.
  13. The selected artwork must be available for the duration of the exhibition*.
  14. Selected artworks will also be featured for sale on our website, therefore cannot be listed for sale elsewhere for the duration of the show.
  15. No substitute artworks can be considered that were not chosen by the judges on the selection day. If these terms are not met, Black Swan Arts retain the right to disqualify submissions without refunding the submitter.
  16. After the exhibition is hung, the judges and prize sponsors will carry out selection. They will decide which pieces will be given the prizes and highly commended awards.
  17. Prizewinners will be contacted by phone or email. Please make yourself available to attend the Prizegiving at 6pm on the date specified.
  18. The judge’s and sponsor’s decisions are final.
  19. Successful applicants must deliver selected artworks on the dates specified, to:
    Long Gallery, Black Swan Arts, 2 Bridge Street, Frome, BA11 1BB.
  20. Artists must arrange delivery of their work.
  21. Each piece of work should be well presented and ‘hang ready’ on picture wire or an appropriate hanging device. If the work is particularly heavy, use mirror plates.
  22. If, when the work arrives it is not deemed to be ready to hang, we will ask the artist to re-present it.
  23. We reserve the right not to hang selected work in the exhibition, with no explanation given.
  24. Art deposited at the Gallery must be unwrapped by the artist/deliverer and the wrapping taken away with them.
  25. Artists need to provide an artist’s statement.
  26. Upon successful submission, the artist agrees that images supplied can be used by Black Swan Arts in promotional material. If necessary, the artist will supply high-resolution images (above 3MB and below 5MB) for use online and in printed publications and press releases. The artist agrees for these images to be reduced, enlarged or slightly cropped to suit promotional purposes if required.
  27. The confirmed prizes can be found on the competition details page on the website.
  28. Collection of (unsold) artworks should be on the dates specified. If you are not able to collect the work in person, you can arrange for a courier to collect on the dates specified.
  29. We will not pay any return postage costs. Transport and delivery of artworks and any associated costs are dealt with by the artist.
  30. We will not arrange your courier.
  31. Work to be returned by post should be supplied in appropriate packaging, which will be re-used with a return address label provided by the artist.
  32. We reserve the right to dispose of or sell any artwork not collected within three weeks of the last collection date, with proceeds going to the Black Swan Arts.
  33. No artworks will be insured against loss, theft, malicious, accidental or environmental damage while it is in transit or in another’s custody.
  34. After successful delivery to the gallery and until collection by the artist or designated representative, all items exhibited are fully insured for the duration.
  35. We will promote the exhibition on our website, through our regular newsletter, our social media profiles, press releases, adverts and listings in magazines and by posters throughout the building and other relevant sites.
  36. We request that all artists submitting work into the competition promote the Art Open through their social media profiles.
  37. Black Swan Arts takes 35% commission on all works sold. We will collect payment from the purchaser and remunerate the artist 65% of this value by BACS. Bank details will need to be provided by the artist upon request.
  38. Black Swan Arts will not share entrants’ personal information with third parties.
